Quick look: 40898 Venetian Water Taxi

Those who buy 11388 Venetian Neighbourhood as soon at it's released next week will receive 40898 Venetian Water Taxi as a gift with purchase. It works well as a stand-alone set and it can also be attached to the Venetian scene. Some may feel that the model is not complete without the GWP, but I'm not sure if that is necessarily the case. Review: LEGO 11383 Mayor Manor

With Halloween being such an important holiday and celebration, LEGO has sought to introduce a brand new sub-theme within LEGO Icons in 2026, with 11383 Mayor Manor, the first in the Midnight Valley collection. Think of the LEGO Midnight Valley collection as the spooky paranormal counterpart to the Winter Village Collection. 11388 Venetian Neighbourhood minifigures

11388 Venetian Neighbourhood includes a whopping 17 minifigures and while they are not the focus of the set, or a reason to consider buying it, they do enable you to 'bring stories to life' according to LEGO, if that's something you like to do with your sets. The model itself leaves a lot to be desired, as you will have discovered if you read my review , but that's not the case for the minifigures: they are both plentiful and pleasing. Review: 11388 Venetian Neighbourhood

11388 Venetian Neighbourhood is this year's 'mega set' that's being released in time for the holiday season. It's stylistically similar to last year's Ideas model 21359 Italian Riviera, but much larger. It's also the second retail set to contain a 3D-printed element, a 'functional' piano, the first being last year's Winter Village set . The model is billed as being for 'travel lovers' and is 'inspired by the canals and architecture of the legen

Review: 40889 Build, Paint and Play!

Build, Paint and Play! by Doomslizer was picked as the winner of LEGO Ideas' Build Your Hobby challenge in September 2025. One year later, the revised model is about to be released and I think it looks superb, taking a fresh approach to model kit assembly! Beyond a clever concept, 40889 Build, Paint and Play! includes a few elements of great interest to Classic Space fans. While the teal astronaut has appeared before, the light bluish grey helmet and air tanks are new, completing a minifigur

LEGO Ideas 40889 Build, Paint and Play! Gift with Purchase: when hobbies collide [Review]

By dint of being a toy for most of its existence, LEGO sets have never delved all that much into the realm of life-size. With the exponential rise in display models of late, though, such designs are starting to pop up with more regularity – see the World Cup trophy or the cats for some recent examples. And there are plenty of fan-designed MOCs done to 1:1 scale. Today, the two worlds overlap as LEGO has revealed 40889 Build, Paint and Play! , Topi Kari’s winning entry into the Ideas

LEGO’s tribute to Model Kits, 40889 Build, Paint and Play is one of the most interesting, and highly anticipated GWPs (gifts with purchase) of 2026, and for good reason – it’s the perfect marriage of two hobbies (LEGO and Model Kits) that have tremendous amounts of overlap. The quite literal Stairway to Heaven

Eli Willsea (forlornempire) has a habit of delivering visually impressive LEGO creations that also tell a story (be sure to check out our Eli Willsea archives ), and this striking staircase is no exception. The figure at the bottom of the build struggles to escape the darkness and ascend the steps. Over on Flickr, Eli shares some personal depth to the meaning of this build and how his faith has remained an encouragement in times of trouble. Regardless of specific beliefs, there’s some univ

Is it really a proper LEGO space theme without walkers?

Classic LEGO space theme M-Tron has a lot going for it, but there is one glaring omission from the nine sets it got. No, it’s not a faction to battle. And no, it’s not a permanent base – the Mega Core Magnetizer fulfils that function perfectly fine, thank you. Luna S knows the answer: walkers! M-Tron didn’t get any walkers, and that’s a damned shame. Thankfully, Luna has addressed this shortfall with this delightfully dense mech! It’s not just a tribute to the

The last of the homologation specials captured in LEGO bricks

The words ‘homologation special’ are likely to set the heart of any petrolhead racing. Once upon a time, racing a car meant you had to sell a certain number of units of said car to the public. Want to make your race car faster? Make your road car faster! And many manufacturers did, making just enough special edition versions to meet the minimum homologation sales volume – hence, homologation special. As time went by, this minimum volume went up, and so they are largely a relic

Taking the Technic for a spin in SHIPtember

One thing we absolutely love about the 100-LEGO-stud-long challenge that is SHIPtember is the work in progress shots, and the story that they tell about what is often a seriously difficult undertaking. We only came across Matrix Bricks ‘ entry a week or so after September ended, but it really caught our eye. How can you not be drawn in by those vortex shapes around the outside? It’s hard to believe LEGO pieces can do that! But do that they can, and thanks to the SHIPtember tradition
